A case of 28-year-old man with closed fracture dislocation of the radial head following a fall from height is reported. He was treated with radial head excision. The radial head is an important stabilizer of the elbow, thus the rationale of radial head excision in management of radial head fractures should be scrutinized. There is much debate regarding the optimal treatment for these fractures.
متن کاملBilateral Radial Head Fracture: A Case Report
Isolated radial head fracture constitutes about 20% of all acute elbow injuries. Bilateral fracture of radial head is a rare entity. We report a case of bilateral symmetrical Mason type I radial head fracture. Patient was treated non-operatively, the MEPS being excellent on both sides at 12 weeks. The patient was followed up for one year.
متن کاملRadial head fracture. A potentially complex injury.
A prospective study was undertaken on 50 acute, consecutive fractures of the radial head. Clinical examination and stress testing were performed on each patient. A valgus stress radiograph, in conjunction with clinical stress testing, was used to assess competence of the medial elbow ligaments. Axial stability of the radius was determined by the axial stress test. Eleven patients (22%) sustaine...
متن کاملThe Monteggia fracture with posterior dislocation of the radial head.
There are two varieties of the fracture-dislocation originally described by Monteggia (1814), according to whether the head of the radius is dislocated anteriorly or posteriorly. The anterior variety, which is the more common, has received a prominent place in all text-books on fractures, chiefly on account of the frequency with which the dislocation is overlooked (Speed and Boyd 1940, \\‘atson...
